Baby Names - What Would You Do?

No, I haven't decided on a name yet. But here's a question for you:

Let's say you have a name you like, but the initials spell out a word. Would you still go with that name or find something else? Or does it matter what word the initials spell out? Like if the initials spelled out VIP (OK, that's not really a word, but work with me here people), that might not be so bad. But what if they were HOG or TUB or JAM or ZIT or something else that you ate or picked at? What would you do? (WWYD?) Or maybe the better question is WWOD, or WWOD?

That's a hard one. We kind of have a similar problem. Our last name starts with an "S" so we can't name our baby say, "Andrew Steven." Then that would be "ASS."
Lol. That really sucks because there are a lot of "A" names I like. I don't think JAM would be that bad, but ZIT and HOG might. I might keep one of the names but find a different first or middle name that would not spell something bad. Then if I really liked the other name I would name my second or third child that name.

Picking a name is one of the hardest things about having a baby (until the baby actually comes...) ;)

Personally, I ALWAYS pay attention to what the initials spell, of everyone around me...but maybe that's just me? The initials were one of our top criteria. If it spelled a word or phrase of any kind (good or bad), they were nixed immediately. OR, if they could be paired with something bad in the future, we didn't use that either (example: a girl with the name Pamela Marie...what if she marries a Mr. Smith? We didn't want to be responsible for those initials!)

Again, all this could just be me and my own quirks. Good luck!!

I think it's fine unless, of course, it spells EGG. ;)

By the way, LOVE the pic. Is that a recent one? LOL ;)

Well, now I have sat here and thought of some awful initials for your little one such as SAG, GAG, LAG, PIG, JIG, BIG, BUG, RUG, well, the list goes on and on. Basically, it appears that you sould completely avoid any CVC combinations! Although, the initials MAG with the name Maggie would actually work out! My friend's middle child has the initials PIE and we call her that a lot. Be careful, it may stick! Years after naming our children we realized that their initials together make up a compass. Meaningful, probably not since at this point none of them have much direction in life!

:) Maybe you could add some sort of fourth middle name to break up the word??

I had a great friend who had the initials "HO" She did not have a middle name....boy her monogrammed towels were FUNNY.

I have a friend with initials WAR. M's initials are MED...still have mixed feelings about that but the 'a' middle name I wanted would have made him MAD. D is actually a hard last name initial to have. All of our kids have funny two initial abbreviations: MD, ED and MD. Mixed feelings about it...but like their first names...

My initials spell out JAR (at least they did before I got married....now I am JARK, which may be worse) and I survived. ;-) But ZIT, on the other hand, is just asking for trouble.

I'm MAM and have always liked it. So for me, a word in and of itself wouldn't be a disqualifier, but a bad word would be.

Ok, so I think you have to be careful on this one -- WIG, JIG, PIG, HAG, FAG, GAG, BIG, SAG -- see the problems, here? I'm thinking the "HO" one, though, that's pretty darned funny!!!

Seriously, though, yes, you have to consider initials. Kids are mean as they get older. Don't give them something to tease your child about or you'll end up in jail (NO PERSONAL experience here -- yet -- but it could be coming with a kid from CHURCH!!). :-)

You'll do fine. You'll know when it's right!!
